Lorna - our latest teacher - is now available for booking one of her courses, which will be running throughout 2009.

Set in the idyllic surroundings of Spains river Ebro in Southern Catalonia and based in the Ebro valley in the village of Bitem near Tortosa, Paint Catalonia offers artists and non- artists alike the chance to capture this area of Catalonia in its truest form and offers the ideal platform from which to immerse oneself in the local traditions and culture.

Situated along the River Ebro between two National Parks and 25 minutes inland from the shores of the Costa Daurada the area is steeped in history and tradition from the Moorish and Roman times and is today still offering sights and relics left by the invaders.

The valley is home to many small villages, each one steeped in its own traditions and cultures along with orange groves, olive, carob, peach and almond plantations all surrounded by mountainous national parks.

Tortosa, capital of the Baix Ebre was founded by the Iberians, strengthened by the Romans and held for centuries by the Moors. Here you can still see and capture the narrow Moorish lanes, gothic arches, gothic and renaissance churches and the 14th century cathederal.

The picturesque village of Miravet is situated on the north bank of the River Ebro and shelters beneath a rocky outcrop by an ancient fortress. The fortress was built by the moors and given by Ramon Berenguer IV to the Order of the Knights Templars. You can drive or walk up to the castle and experience the splendid views of the river and village and valley beyond. The village is also famous for it's cherries and potteries.

Along the Costa Daurada there are many quaint coves and fishing villages with harbours. L'Ampolla, St Carlos de Rapita, Cap Roig to name a few. Not forgetting the Ebro Delta itself, a protected National Reserve and one of the most important wetlands of Europe. With it's watery landscape of salt marshes, rice fields and lagoons it provides home for numerous birds and wildlife.

This is a landscape like nowhere else in Catalonia, with huge skies, endless horizons and long empty beaches.

" I found myself painting on the terrace in the mid december sunshine with a group of new friends,we laughed and chatted and in the end when we had finished our paintings,I thought we had done very well..."
